"PENDULUM" by Kevin Keller

Ambient/Classical composer Kevin Keller teams up with cellist David Darling and guitarist Jeff Pearce to create a kaleidoscopic musical journey in six parts. "Pendulum" combines turn-of-the-century Impressionism with modern electronics to create majestic, floating soundscapes, with a mixture of drones and cello, sparkling synthesizer textures, and deep throbbing bass lines. Rhythmic textures - pulsing, hypnotic, and seductive - ride across deep space, until the music drifts off into the distane. Like giant waves of sound washing over you. "Pendulum" pushes ambient music to the next level.

Classically trained composer and pianist Kevin Keller hit the ambient music scene in 1994 with his debut recording, "The Mask of Memory." When selections from this album were featured on Hearts of Space, Keller's music was brought into the spotlight. He reached international status in January 1996 with his second release, "Intermezzo." Receiving airplay on both classical and ambient radio programs in Europe and North America, this album established Keller as a pioneer in the genre. "Intermezzo" was featured on several Hearts of Space programs in 1996 and 1997, and was named one of the Top 25 Releases of 1996 by NPR's John Diliberto. "Pendulum," Keller's third album, is a definitive statement of his style: a unique blend of classical and ambient music.

David Darling is a classically trained cellist who began his career with the Paul Winter Consort in 1969. Since 1978, he has dedicated himself to a solo performing and recording career, collaborating with Bobby McFerrin, Spyro Gyra, Jan Garbarek, and the dance ensemble Pilobolus. Darling contributed to the score of Wim Wenders' film "Until the End of the World," and his solo album "Cello," was named one of the Top 10 Contemporary Instrumental Releases of 1992 by Pulse Magazine.

Growing up in Indianapolis, Jeff Pearce studied acoustic guitar and traditional finger-picking styles. But he soon picked up the electric guitar, using odd effects like glissando guitar, e-bow and digital looping devices to build layered melodies and rhythms in real time. Pearce's "The Hidden Rift" was named one of the Top 25 Releases of 1996 by NPR's John Diliberto, and enjoyed widespread airplay and reviews. His work has appeared on compilation albums by Lektronic Soundscapes and Amplexus.

!!"SPACECRAFT" CD CHOSEN AS ALLEGRO's CD OF THE MONTH IN JUNE, 1997!!

This music reflects a direct inspiration from excitement shared by space enthusiasts, astral thinkers, and the common man, who have achieved a galactic state of consciousness in these latter days of the 20th century. "Spacecraft" will transport you to places reserved for the astral travelers and the world of sub-space beings. We present this collection of recordings to help put your mind in a frame of reference to explore the transforming possibilities of our people, our planet, our solar system and our universe.

This is Gerber's newest production. Inspired by listening to NASA Voyager One data transmissions, mapped to audio tones, with John Rose, this set of recordings is a deep space experience. This new project has overtones of Bladerunner.

The Spacecraft group includes: Tony Gerber, John Rose, Chris Blazen, Diane Timmons and Robert Mitchell (on first song, drummer for Dinah Shore, Jr.).

Chris Blazen is currently an artist on Genderless Kibbutz out of Nashville, Tennessee and Rome, Italy.

John Rose is a composer working out of Lexington, Kentucky. Gerber and Rose have worked together for several years doing live radio, outdoor festivals, art openings and planetarium performances. John was co-writer on the "The Badlands" with Tony, a cut on "Blue Western Sky". This song received continual airplay on Echoes in 1995 and 1996.

Spacecraft was digitally edited and mastered by Tommy Dorsey of Masterfonics in Nashville, Tennessee. The artwork for the project was created and designed by Gerber.

1997 COMPILATION FROM LEKTRONIC SOUNDSCAPES!

"Some pieces convey hope and joy, others reflect sorrow and darkness, but all have a spiritual beauty...don't pass up the opportunity to check this one out." - - New Age Voice

?Lektronic Soundscapes is pleased to announce the release of an ambient electronic music compilation featuring eight new original works and mixes by some of the finest composers and performers of space and ambient trance music of the 90's, the critically acclaimed: Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Jonn Serrie, Vidna Obmana, Giles Reaves, A Produce, Tony Gerber and Todd Fletcher.

Musically adventurous, "Soundscape Gallery, Volume 1" is a show room that exposes encounters with uncharted musical territories: deep space explorations, hypnotic trance music, sonic mysteries and the vast regions beyond the reach of the mind. The first sound exhibit is by Jonn Serrie, an artist well known for his numerous works commissioned for planetariums around the world. On Sanctuaries, "the music becomes a moving starship of thought into vast regions." Todd Fletcher, an ethno-trance and space music composer from Arizona, ventures into barren lunar landscapes on Badlands, giving way to Dwell, hypnotic trance music by A Produce, one of the most active musicians in the Los Angeles trance music scene. The next piece of music art is by Nashville-based Giles Reaves, a well respected session percussionist and synthesist/producer/composer from Nashville, who has been recording space music for over ten years. Sirius creates "sublime atmospheres that are not bound by language, but liberated by infinite spirit." From Belgium, across the Atlantic, comes the work of Vidna Obmana, one of the most interesting ambient musicians in Europe. He composed The Nourished Unknown, an example of his dark atmospheric style. Robert Rich, an amazing sound designer and composer, dedicates this Requiem to the memory of his cousin David Schultz. On Jurassic Rain, Tony Gerber emulates "fresh rain in Jurassic forest. To a time of planetary freedom when plant s and animals ruled this earth." The exhibition ends with a new work by Steve Roach, recognized as one of the leading innovators of contemporary electronic music. This And The Other is an example of his restless search for new sounds.

The stunning twelve-page CD booklet includes artist photos, detailed biographies, personal quotes about the pieces, solo discographies and web page contact addresses.

This is the first volume of a series that will expose new works by many of the most exciting talents in contemporary electronic music.

Early space music, in the 70?s, was the result of the combination of psychedelic rock, contemporary classical music and experimentation with synthesizers, sequencers and sound effects. Electronic music composed and performed at that time by Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Tim Blake, Vangelis, Steve Hillage, Larry Fast, Neuronium and various other synthesists, was categorized as floating music, gliding music, cosmic music or even German rock. Meanwhile, Brian Eno initiated his concept of ambient music and progressive rocker Robert Fripp developed repetitive music experimental techniques. In the 80?s, the CD reissues by most of these artists and the new releases by new performers like Robert Schroeder, Software, Steve Roach, Michael Stearns and Robert Rich were marketed as new age music, even though space music had very little in common with the easy listening instrumental music found in new age bins. In the 90?s, the term ambient music is applied to most new and old space and contemplative electronic music.?

DEBUT CD RELEASE FROM TONY GERBER

Thirty years ago, Tony Gerber was given a guitar by his grandfather and commenced to teach himself how to play, marking his entrance into music. Eight years later, he built his first modular synthesizer from a kit, marking his entry into electronic music. Gerber's music has since been used for independent films and performance art pieces across the United States, parts of Canada, Guatemala, and France. He music has been heard on stations throughout the US including the syndicated programs Hearts of Space and Echoes. Today, after several cassette album releases, multimedia performances, and a visionary use of computer technology in audio and visual applications, he presents his musical compact disc debut.

Blue Western Sky, which was nominated for the 1996 Nashville Music Awards "Instrumental Album of the Year", is the result of his most recent solo musical works coupled with several divinely inspired collaborations. The new solo works were recorded at Betalabs located outside of Nashville, Tennessee. The title cut, "Morning Prelude" and "Morning Reprise" were recorded in Phoenix, Arizona with composer/pianist, Kent Heckaman. "The Badlands" was a duo performance with electronic composer, John Rose, recorded at the Maupin Conservatory of Music in Lexington, Kentucky. "The Lunar Crossing" was recorded live during a lunar eclipse in 1992 with Hearts of Space recording artist, Giles Reaves at Reaves' studio in Nashville. "Kitt Peak" was recorded with the C2P2 MIDI Mode 4 Controller invented by Jim Corrigan. This is the C2P2's debut recording into the realm of space music.

Tony is currently recording and producing a new guitar and electronic keyboard recording entitled Altamira. This album has been three years in the making and will probably have an early 1998 release. Watch this site for more information.

Astral Dance is a music project started by Pelle Handén in his synth studio in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1986. The recording by Astral Dance was an independently produced LP titled Mindgate, featuring Pelle Handén on synthesizers and guitarist Joakim Wall, a cult album with fiery guitar licks and explosive sequencing.

A second album, Beyond, came out in 1988, released by Sweden's LCM label. This Handén was accompanied by syntesist Johan Belin, a former member of Tribute and The Foundation. Beyond also featured a guest appearance by Bjorn J: son Lindg, playing flute.

Dreamscape will show a new, more innovative side of Astral Dance. Gregorian chants, ethnic elements, background vocals and flute have added new spice to the purely electronic sounds.

Nearly thirteen years ago, Martin Kornberger and Volker Kuhn met each other, deciding to work on musical ideas, using different instruments, based on their mutual musical roots of the 70s. Since 1984, the duo has released several cassette albums which were all well appreciated by followers of independent electronic music. In 1991, they decided to use the Changing Images for their next music projects. That same year, the first CD album by Changing Images, The Castle, was released in France by the Musea label.

Martin Kornberger, a keyboard and synth specialist, is well known for his symphonic to approach to electronic music, adding classical overtones as well as German-style sequencer lines and rich, soundtrack-like arrangements, evoking imaginary harmonic, but also gloomy scenarios.

Volker Kuhn's solo guitar parts and guitar-controlled synth lines give the music the varied, dialectic touch of a sybiosis.

Both musical characters complement each other and have created their own way of combining different musical elements like electronic and minimal-style music with ethnic and acoustic ingredients, hard to classify in conventional musical terms. While the debut CD album has a more syphonic character of figurative music, this album by Changing Images is closer to their electronic music tradition.
