| Bang Shang-a-Lang was the brainchild of bandmembers Tommy Dorsey and Randy Bowles.
Other members included were Tony Crow, Rusel Brown, Peter Cummings,
Marky Nevers, Larry Goad and Giles Reaves. The group created quite a mystique and buzz
throughout the eighties. Bang Shang-a-Lang's premier live performance
was at the first Space for Music outdoor concert in 1986 at Don Evans' farm in Joelton, Tennessee. The group continued with several
other live concerts at parties and in Nashville clubs including
the innovative alternative Urban Lounge on 2nd avenue. Their recordings
comprised of cassette releases circulated among the fans and mailed
to college stations nationwide. When it just looked like Bang
Shang-a-Lang was ready to rise, personality conflicts forced the
group to ungroup. End of chapter one. |

Tommy Dorsey worked for over six years as a full-time mastering engineer at one of the leading mastering facilities in the world, Masterfonics, in Nashville, TN. In addition to his craft for creating blistering digital masters he has also made master laquers for vinyl pressings on the vintage Georg Neuman laquer lathe at Masterfonics. The above and intro photos are courtesy of Stanton Magnetics and
are microscopic views of a needle on a record (intro) and a metal master used for pressing vinyl (above). |
