DECEMBER 2001

12/14/01 - NEWS FLASH
SPACECRAFT MUSIC IN PARAMOUNT PICTURES' NEWLY RELEASED FILM "VANILLA SKY"

Nashville, TN... Space for Music is proud to announce that SPACECRAFT's song "Earthtime Tapestry" from the 1999 CD release of the same name is used in the soundtrack of the newly released film from Paramount Pictures, "Vanilla Sky" starring Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Kurt Russell and Cameron Diaz. The movie is a definite mind bender that includes several styles of music including Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney, REM, The Beach Boys and Radiohead. SPACECRAFT is excited to be in such company with their own brand of space music. We also thank director Cameron Crowe, among others, for including space music as part of the soundtrack roster. Their music occurs at a pinnacle point in the movie, directly after the car wreck scene, as Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz meet in NYC Central Park.

Based in Nashville, TN, Spacecraft consists of Tony Gerber (guitar and synthesizers), and Giles Reaves (synths/processing) with John Rose (synths) and Diane Timmons (voice and synths) living in Lexington, KY. With eight albums to their credit, another ready for release in January 2002 and represented on several compilations, Spacecraft is recognized as one of the leading voices in the space music community.

Pursuing the course laid down by the pioneering music of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Jean Michel Jarre, Spacecraft is making significant contributions to the spacemusic genre. Recalling 1970's styles but adding their own contemporary inspiration, Spacecraft offers sounds and forms that "shift and morph through each other, gradually revealing broad chordal structures, gentle pulses, and the interlocking patterns that have long been the hallmark of space music." (BILLBOARD).

NOVEMBER 2001

11/11/01 - NEWS FLASH "CDR Division of Space for Music Records to be launched in 2002!" In addition to our regular CD releases, a new catalog of high quality CDR releases will be available for order directly from the Space for Music Records website. As a result of recent difficulties and high pricing structure with other websites who "manufacture" CDRs on demand, we have decided to bring the manufacturing in-house. This will afford us the luxury of supplying the bulk of our catalog to other distributors and resellers. We will be releasing many of the titles currently in our catalog, via mp3.com and ampcast.com on our own "on demand" record label. Stay tuned for more on this exciting development.

11/10/01 - 2 NEW RELEASES for November at SFM...from 2 NEW ARTISTS at SFM...Nebula Drone "A long fade into virtual light" and Mason Stevens "Luna Waves." Mason recorded with William Linton and Tony Gerber on the Cosmic Flight album from 1986 which was featured on Hearts of Space radio show and catalog. Nebula Drone, hailing from Cologne, Germany, brings their Berlin style sound to Space for Music.

11/09/01 - Multimedia art guru, Don Evans, will be retiring from his tenured position as art professor at Vanderbilt University in December. His multimedia performances started at the Moorehead Planetarium in North Carolina back in the mid 1960s. He has always worked with electronic musicians over the years, including Gil Trythal, creator of the 1971 landmark "Switched on Country Moog" and space music's Tony Gerber, among others. Don has asked Tony to create a new piece of music for the ending video of the live performance of "Don's Big Art Show" on Dec. 13th in the Sarratt Student Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

7/23/01 - New tracks have been added to the ATLANTIC roster for listening and download at mp3.com!
For those of you not familiar with this new space guitar project, it is a collaboration between REDSHIFT and STONE IDOL's guitarist, Rob Jenkins and SPACECRAFT's guitarist, Tony Gerber. The project was started last year and is slowly reaching enough songs for an eventual CD release. The title is yet to be determined. These two artists have never met each other as of yet, but the internet has been their bridge to collaboration on this project. Each one does a track and sends it to the other for additional tracks. Their guitar styles work well together and is creating a very synth-like musical experience, but of course it is only electric guitars and processing. Kind of down a similar path that Jeff Pearce glides through.
