Classic space music utilizing only the guitar and guitar controller for an addictive sound from a noteworthy newcomer to the genre. RADIOWAVE (aka Greg Paugh) has hit a winner with this debut CD release. All sounds/tones were created and performed on a Godin LGXSA Midi Guitar into a Roland GR33 interface to access the Roland XV5080 synthesizer then recorded directly into Steinberg Nuendo thru a TC Electronics Gold Channel, RME ADI-8Pro & Hammerfall 9652 audio card..More importantly than the technical aspects of the music, the sound is superb and divine...Check this one out! REVIEWS RADIOWAVE - "Journey Thru OZ!" It's great to have a label with a specific focus like SpaceForMusic.com, to provide an outlet for established space musicians as well as newcomers. Radiowave is Greg Paugh, and his space sound is created using guitar and guitar synthesizer, without the usual dizzying array of sequencers that so often accompanies music in this style. The result is more melodic than most. For example, "Worm Hole" allows softly strummed guitar and flutey synth sounds to set the tone, with the space music sounds adding an airy feel. Others, like "Metamorphosis," are more in the true space music vein, with lush, flowing electronic soundscapes. "Echoes of Paradise" includes soft rainfall. The guitar is very dominant here, though the style is very gentle, with plucked strings as fingers audibly move across the fret board. There are several relaxing diversions from typical space music such as this. "Water of Life" is very soft and tranquil. "Dune of Abaddon" blends synths, piano, and a jazz-like bass line. This piece stands out with its unusual melding of styles. "Singularity" has a similar bass line, with an electric guitar solo somewhat reminiscent of David Gilmour. This style of playing continues into the closing track, "The Other Side Of Reality," a good atmospheric piece with a slightly raw edge to give a nice bite to it. Overall, the album occasionally strays a bit into excess or cliché (like thunderous applause for nearly a minute at the end), but in general the results are worth exploring, and warrant keeping an ear out for future releases as well. |
