Childhood Dreams
by Thurston Moore

Arranged by Debbie Wilson

Dreams, whether awake or asleep, Childhood Dreams come true.
Dreams, oh, how I wish I could keep Childhood Dreams for you.
Day dreams, play dreams, beauty queen, butterfly;
Night dreams, bright dreams, ocean waves, mountains high.
When I grow up will my dreams slow up? Will they really come true?
Can't I keep youth so I won't lose truth;
Can't I go on believing that dreams come true, awake or asleep,
Ev'ry child's, Childhood Dreams come true.

Hisao Hayashi, Director of Hiroshima Boys' Choir

"I have several songs which remind me of U.S.A. One of them is the song, Amazing Grace. Another is Childhood Dreams, which Mr. Moore composed. The song reminds me of the song of the Disney movie, Aladdin, and the movie Titantic. We will sing this song in our concerts from now on as a memory and a keepsake of our Tennessee Tour."

Hiroshima Boys' Choir

The Hiroshima Boys' Choir was formed in 1960 and has performed in Hawaii, Oregon and Tennessee in the United States; as well as in Malaysia, China, Australia, France and England. Through their performances they promote culture and are making a contribution to the wholesome upbringing of young people. The choir conveys the spirit of the City of Peace, Hiroshima; they are conveying the tragedy of the atomic bombing and are appealing for world peace and for the abolition of nuclear weapons.

The Hiroshima Boys' Choir has been under the leadership of Hisao Hayashi for twenty-two years. He is a graduate of Hiroshima University, where he majored in vocal and piano music. While still a student he conducted the University Choir. The Hiroshima Boys' Choir sing at the annual Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6th of each year, the anniversary of humankind's first nuclear-weapons tragedy. The A-Bomb Dome, skeleton of the Hiroshima Industrial Promotion Hall is preserved today as a memorial to the A-bomb victims and as a warning to future generations.

The Hiroshima Boys' Choir has won numerous awards, including the Hiroshima Cultural Prize; Commendation for Community Cultural Merits; Best Choreography Prize; Best Foreign Language Prize; and Solo Competition Grand Prix at Portland International Youth Choir Festival in 1998.
